ASTORIA, QUEENS — The city’s Transportation Department is welcoming the season with the "largest-ever celebration of Open Streets” across all five boroughs, prepping for its main event in Queens taking place on Woodside Avenue.

A portion of Elmhurst will be celebrating Earth Day with celebrations scheduled for April 22. Last month, the renowned Open Street program on 31st Avenue announced its launch for April.

"Open Streets: Car-Free Earth Day is about encouraging New Yorkers to leave their vehicles at home and enjoying our city's parks, plazas, and expanded network of Open Streets," said Ydanis Rodriguez, the DOT commissioner.
