Astoria Food Pantry Throws Garden Party At Queens Botanical Garden

ASTORIA, QUEENS — The neighborhood food pantry that has been feeding underserved families since the start of the pandemic in Astoria will host a fundraiser at the Queens Botanical Garden this weekend.

Astoria Food Pantry will celebrate a garden party on Sunday, March 5, at the botanical garden located at 43-50 Main Street in Flushing from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

WFUV hosts Benham Jones and Alisa Ali will present live music performances, including indie rock artist Lily Mao in the garden’s Helen M. Marshall Auditorium.

The efforts will go toward supporting Astoria Food Pantry, which faced a slowdown in donations this winter but was able to pick itself back up through fundraising efforts.

The food pantry located at 25-82 Steinway Street, receives a good chunk of its donations through Astoria's 31st Avenue Open Street vendors, which were absent over the winter recess.

The food pantry had to cut half of its food budget, which led the group to reduce its weekly Monday and Saturday giveaways from weekly to just every other week.

Astoria Food Pantry launched a fundraiser to recoup some of the losses it had during the winter, and it was able to get back on its normal schedule in February.
