ASTORIA, QUEENS — The pool at Astoria Park will stay closed during the summer, with residents expected to endure a yearlong closure.

Astoria Pool located at 19th Street and 23rd Drive will close until the summer of 2024 amid repairs to the pool tub and mechanical systems, according to the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation.

The city’s outdoor pools were already closed since the fall of 2022 amid the colder months, and are expected to reopen in the summer.

Astoria Pool faced a slight setback in its 2021 reopening, delaying its services for two days as the city fixed filter issues in the pool.

Astoria Pool originally opened in 1936, at the height of the Great Depression, and was one of eleven immense outdoor public pools the Parks Department opened that summer. Astoria Pool is one of seven outdoor public pools in Queens.
