Astoria Vietnamese Restaurant Named Among Best In The City

A new Eater list of the 32 best Vietnamese restaurants in New York City includes an Astoria spot with "outstanding" pho.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — The advent of cold weather in NYC means that soup season is nigh, which is good news for Astorians who are looking for a local bowl of pho.

A new list by Eater NY names District Saigon, located at 37-15 Broadway, as among the 32 best Vietnamese restaurants in New York City — all of which they describe as "outstanding."

The Astoria eatery was one among four Vietnamese restaurants in Queens that made the list; the three others are located in Jackson Heights and Elmhurst, which are known for having sizable Vietnamese communities. Other parts of Queens, however, did not make the list.

Eater describes District Saigon, which was opened in 2016 by Chef Lam, as a more "modern" Vietnamese joint among those on the list, which caters to "younger audiences" with discotheque-themed decor and snacks alike.

Editors, however, said that the restaurant does classics right, and specifically recommended District Saigon's homemade pate on baguette and menu of phos.

They also said that the vermicelli noodle bowl topped with catfish and the restaurant's full bar merit recognition.

And, this is hardly the first time that Eater editors recognized a northwest Queens restaurant as one of the borough's best spots: editors recently recommended a new BBQ joint in Astoria, and named two Astoria restaurants as among the best spots in the city for brunch.
