Astoria Water Is Safe To Drink, City Says After Erroneous Post

A link suggesting that Astoria's tap water isn't safe to drink prompted concerns among some locals, but the city says NYC's water is "safe."

ASTORIA, QUEENS — A neighbor in Astoria posted an inaccurate link on a local thread Monday morning, prompting concerns that the neighborhood's water is not clean to drink.

The city — and many neighbors — however, responded with a resounding message: New York City's water is "safe and healthy to drink."

In response to the link, Patch reached out to the Department of Environmental Protection, or DEP, to hear more about how the city maintains its water.

According to the DEP, agency scientists test NYC tap water "approximately 2,000 times every single day of the year," a spokesperson said.

Results from these tests are posted in an annual water quality report, the most recent of which is from last year.
