Astoria's Greek Fare Gets Shout-Out From NBC Reporter

In an interview, award-winning reporter Myles Miller said that Astoria has the best Greek food throughout the city's five boroughs.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — New Yorkers know award-winning reporter Myles Miller from NBC, but what they might not know is that he loves Astoria’s Greek food.

“Astoria has the best Greek food in the city,” Miller told Grub Street in an interview chronicling everything he ate in nearly a week’s time — including a gyro in Astoria.

Miller, who revealed to Grub Street that he always knows where to eat thanks to “food-conscious” friends and a “crazy map” on his phone full of places to go, is far from the first person to celebrate Astoria’s Greek fare, which came to the neighborhood alongside an influx of Greek immigrants in the 20th century.

Astoria’s Greek food trucks have been recognized as some of the best in the city, and famed food critic Pete Wells awarded a Greek taverna — a small restaurant — one star for food that he said he’d return to Astoria for.

Recently, another taverna in the neighborhood was named on the Michelin-vetted list of New York City's best spots for cheap eats.
