Astoria's Kaufman Studios Opening Backlot For Weekend Street Fair
People can get a rare look behind Kaufman Studios' gates for Saturday's free fair, featuring arts vendors, food, live music and more.
ASTORIA, QUEENS — Curious what's hidden behind Kaufman Studios' metal gates that close off 36th Street in Astoria? You can see for yourself on Saturday, when the street will be lined with food vendors, artists, and more.
Queens Rises Higher at Kaufman Arts District will run from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday on the Kaufman Astoria Studios backlot, on 36th Street between 34th and 35th avenues.
It's free to get in, though visitors may want to register in advance online, according to organizers: the Queens Economic Development Corporation, Kaufman Arts District, and Kaufman Astoria Studios.

Saturday's street fair will be "similar-but-bigger" than last fall's Queens Comes Back event, in which dozens of vendors and hundreds of people gathered in the same spot, reports It's In Queens.
The still-growing list of vendors includes SingleCut Beersmiths, De Mole, Elevenses, The Soup Lady, The Wine Room of Forest Hills, Paige's Candle Co., Healthy as a Motha, Parva Bakeshop & Café, plus many others.

A mini-stage will host free outdoor performances from local musicians and the Queensboro Dance Festival, plus other dance groups.
Representatives from Made in Queens, an offshoot of the Queens Economic Development Corporation, will also be on hand selling shirts, jewelry, handmade soaps, candles and more.
"Experience local food and drinks, buy goods from artists and crafters, and enjoy live entertainment!" organizers wrote on the event page. "All made in the world’s best borough - Queens!"
