Brewery To Open In New Long Island City Apartment Tower
Queens-based Finback Brewery will open a taproom and microbrewery later this year on the ground floor of the new Queens Plaza "Sven" tower.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — The new luxury apartment tower that now glistens next to Queens Plaza has a new amenity to add to its list: a brewery.
Finback Brewery, based out of Glendale, has signed a lease to open a 3,800-square-foot location in Sven, the recently completed tower at the corner of Queens Plaza and Northern Boulevard, developers announced Monday.
Consisting of a taproom and on-site "microbrewery," the ground-floor space will open in late 2022, according to the Durst Organization, which built the glass tower that curves around the landmark Chase Manhattan Bank building.

Besides its Queens headquarters, Finback has another location in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
The Long Island City location will focus on "fruit forward fermentations," aged in wooden barrels and ceramic fermentation crocks to produce sour beers, according to a press release.

"Brewery Taprooms have become important social spaces in the city and we are thrilled to become a part of the LIC community," Finback co-owner Basil Lee said in a statement. "The opportunity to create a destination at the iconic Sven deepens our Queens roots and we are particularly excited to showcase our mixed-fermentation sour ales that highlight New York fruits and ingredients."
Founded in 2011, Finback is also known for its hoppy IPAs and barrel-aged stouts.
News of the brewery comes about two months after Durst announced that Sven would also be abutted by a half-acre public park, with a playground, dog runs and workout equipment right behind the tower.
Leasing is underway for the 958-unit, 27-story apartment building. Meanwhile, the 95-year-old bank building that it surrounds is undergoing a renovation that will be complete by this summer, according to Durst.
