ASTORIA, QUEENS — A Caribbean and soul food restaurant with the self-described “world’s greatest chicken” is opening in Astoria this month — but it’s the sauce that sets the eatery apart.

Saucy Fried Chicken is slated to open on Sept. 24 at 25-89 Steinway Street, with a three-day grand opening extravaganza, including live music and performances from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.

As its name suggests, the restaurant will serve up deliciously crispy chicken with over 63 sauces, ranging from honey bbq sauce to lemon pepper sauce — and a host of others.

Over the summer, Astorias were outraged to hear that a couple of large, chain restaurants are opening outposts in the neighborhood.

By contrast, locals were excited to hear about Saucy Fried Chicken’s opening, welcoming the small business and its array of soul food options.
