Free Movies Return To The Long Island City Waterfront This Summer

The series features a showing of The Lion King on Saturday, July 31, followed by Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jaws in the upcoming months.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — After cancelling showings last year amid the pandemic, the big screen is returning to the Long Island City waterfront this summer.

For the seventh year, CinemaLIC is returning to Hunter's Point South Park for a free outdoor movie screening series projected on a 30-foot inflatable screen.

The three-movie series will kick off on Saturday, July 31 with a showing of the 2019 version of Disney's Lion King. In the months to come, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jaws will be shown on Aug. 26 and Sep. 12, respectively, weather permitting.

"It has been a challenging year and a half, but nothing says summer in LIC better than an outdoor movie on the LIC waterfront," said Rob Basch, president of Hunters Point Parks Conservancy, in a news release.
