The Museum of the Moving Image will also have a media lab where people can make their own video game, according to a spokeswoman.

ASTORIA, NY — Next month, the Museum of the Moving Image is debuting a new exhibit titled “Behind the Screen: Life in Stop Motion.”

The exhibit, which opens Thursday, Sept.1, will allow visitors to make their own short animations using LAIKA characters.

“We are working on a function where people can send it to themselves,” said Tomoko Kawamoto, a spokeswoman for the museum.

People with a Cool Culture pass can see the exhibit and other general admission showcases for free, according to Kawamoto.
