LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Complaints of social distancing violations amid the coronavirus pandemic have started hitting New York City's 311 hotline, and no neighborhood has logged more complaints than Long Island City.
New Yorkers lodged 4,270 social distancing complaints since March 28, when 311 operators started giving the calls their own descriptor, according to city data.
The ZIP code 11101, which covers Long Island City, accounted for the city's most social distancing complaints, with 76 in the last week.

Social distancing effectively became the law of the land after Gov. Andrew Cuomo's "stay-at-home" order went into effect March 22.

Cuomo announced Monday that he was extending the order until April 29 and raising the maximum fine for social distancing violations to $1,000, up from $500.
Queens has racked up nearly a thousand social distancing 311 complaints since the city started giving the calls their own category, according to the data.
Brooklyn had the most social distancing calls, with 1,480 between March 28 and April 5, followed by Manhattan and then Queens.
Most calls in every borough involved people in stores or commercial properties.
