LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — MoMA PS1 will be closed through the end of the month in an effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, the museum announced Thursday.

The closure will last through at least March 30 and affects the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA PS1 in Long Island City and MoMA's two design stores in Manhattan. Mina's, the restaurant inside MoMA PS1, will also close its doors.

There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among MoMA employees, the museum said in a statement.

MoMA PS1 is among a number of New York City museums that decided to close Thursday after Gov. Andrew Cuomo enacted a ban on gatherings of more than 500 people in New York City in an effort to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.

As of Friday, 95 people in New York City had tested positive for the virus, though officials expect that number to spike as testing becomes more widespread.
