NY Sen. Michael Gianaris Wins Another Term In Uncontested Race

State Sen. Michael Gianaris ran unopposed in the general election, handing him an automatic win once the polls closed Tuesday night.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — State Sen. Michael Gianaris is officially returning to Albany for another term representing Western Queens.

Gianaris ran unopposed in the general election, handing him an automatic win once the polls closed Tuesday night in New York City.

In June, he defeated challenger Iggy Terranova in the Democratic primary election.

Gianaris, an Astoria resident, was first elected to the New York Senate in 2010 and now serves as the Senate's deputy majority leader.

He previously spent 10 years representing Astoria in the state Assembly and worked as counsel to the Assembly. He also worked as an aide to Congressman Tom Manton and served as former Gov. Mario Cuomo's Queens regional representative.

Gianaris represents the 12th Senatorial District, which covers Astoria, Long Island City and Sunnyside, as well as parts of Woodside, Maspeth, Ridgewood and Woodhaven.
