LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Queensbridge Houses is among seven public housing complexes that will get on-site testing for the new coronavirus to battle a growing disparity in infections among poorer New Yorkers, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday.

The New York City Housing Authority and urgent care provider Ready Responders plan to launch the pilot program this week at Queensbridge, Highbridge, Edenwald, Andrew Jackson, Brevoort, Red Fern and Hammel Houses, according to the governor's office.

NYCHA residents will also receive 500,000 masks and 10,000 gallons of hand sanitizer, Cuomo said.

"They've always been the most vulnerable population," Cuomo said. "People in public housing always pay the highest price."

The new coronavirus is hitting New York City's public housing residents especially hard, according to news reports in POLITICO, the New York Daily News and New York Magazine.
