WOODSIDE, QUEENS — Officials on Thursday kicked off a $1.87 million renovation of Doughboy Plaza in Woodside.

Workers will rebuild the plaza surrounding the park's beloved Doughboy monument, which commemorates the World War I veterans of Queens, and build new drinking fountains, seating and pathways, according to a news release from the city's parks department.

The plaza's 9/11 memorial plaque and flagpole will also be reconstructed, and the park will get improved lighting and drainage.
