Elderly Woman Mugged For Bible In Queens: NYPD Video

The 77-year-old woman was walking on a Long Island City sidewalk in broad daylight when the person began attacking her, police video shows.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — In an incident caught on video on Sunday, a person walked up to an elderly woman mid-day in Long Island City, and hit her in the face before stealing her purse and Bible, police reported.

Around noon on Sunday, Sept. 12, a woman, 77, was walking on the sidewalk in Long Island City, near 21-12 36 Avenue, when a person approached her, police said.

The person walked up to the elderly woman and punched her in the face, while simultaneously trying to grab her purse and Bible from her hands, according to a video reported by the NYPD.

The woman was dragged into a parking pay station while trying to hold onto her purse, but the attacker eventually stole it from her hands and ran away on 35 Avenue, the video shows.

After the attack, the 77-year-old had hurt her hands, but refused further medical attention from EMS who came to the scene, police reported.

While police didn't provide a description of the person who stole from the elderly woman, they included a video taken from near the attack, which shows what they look like.
