ASTORIA, QUEENS — Police and fire officials found a slashed woman inside a burning Astoria building on Thursday night, in what one source says is being investigated as a suicide.

Around 6:18 p.m. on Dec. 9th, police rushed to a second-floor apartment at 40-11 12th Street — part of the Queensbridge North Houses — where fire officials were putting out a fire, NYPD records show.

After getting the blaze under control, fire officials discovered a woman, with burns and "deep cuts" in the scorched apartment, one cop told the NY Daily News.

The woman, whose name wasn't disclosed as officials try to track down her family, was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital by EMS where she was pronounced dead.

Now, detectives are trying to figure if the woman cut herself and set the apartment of fire in an act of suicide, the Daily News reported, adding that her cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

According to the NYPD, the Fire Marshal will determine the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation.
