ASTORIA, QUEENS — Astorians don't have to cross the East River to see a Christmas tree lighting ceremony this holiday season.

On the early evening of Tuesday, Dec. 7th at 4:30 p.m., a spruce will be lit up in front of Kaufman Astoria Studios, located at 34-12 36th Street.

The annual tree lighting ceremony is organized by the film studio, but includes special touches from community members.

Local students at P.S. 166 and the Our World Neighborhood Charter School, for instance, decorated and donated the ornaments that will adorn the tree. Also, before the official tree lighting, the Astoria Performing Arts Center will lead students in festive songs.

This marks the second, free tree lighting in Astoria, following a similar event in Athens Square Park on Dec. 3rd. The park's 30-foot-tall Norway spruce will remain lit up through Jan. 8th.
