ASTORIA, QUEENS — A storm blanketed most parts of New York in a half foot of snow on Friday morning, which bodes well for Astoria families looking to get outside and make the most of the powder.

The Parks Department has a list of the best places to go sledding across the five boroughs, and the Queens list includes northwest Queens' own Astoria Park.

According to the department, the southern edge of the park — off of Ditmars Boulevard between Shore Boulevard and 19th Street — is the best place to sled down a big, sloping hill in the area.

The snow might not stick for long in Astoria, though, since the neighborhood only got about 2.2 inches of snow according to the National Weather Service, which pales in comparison to other parts of Queens that got upwards of 7 inches.

Nearby, in East Elmhurst, LaGuardia airport was pummeled with 8.4 inches, grounding over 300 flights.

For New Yorkers commuting across the five boroughs on Friday, forecasters warned of "treacherous" conditions on untreated roads, and urged caution. Some citywide trains were canceled, too.

The snowfall didn't merit a snow day for NYC's public school students and teachers, according to the Department of Education, but the agency moved to excuse weather-related lateness.

The city did make some snow-related adjustments on Friday, too, like suspending alternate side parking through Saturday.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until noon Friday.
