2013 Babylon School Budget Vote & Election Guide

Your go-to-guide on Babylon's proposed budget and board candidates for Tuesday's vote.

Voters from across the Babylon School District will head out to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots for the district's proposed budget and select two representatives to the Board of Education for the 2013-2014 school year.

The Board of Education has proposed a $47.577 million budget for the 2013-2014 school year, up about 2.8 percent or $1.3 million from the current 2012-2013 school budget.

The estimated tax rate increase would be about 3.11 percent, or $199.73 per $100 of assessed value on properties. Dr. Peter Daly, district assistant superintendent, noted during a recent meeting that many of the increases came from teacher and employee retirement systems.

Voters will also be looking to fill two seats on the Board of Education. Incumbents Dominic Bencivenga, the current board president, and Roger Katz will be up for re-election against former board member AnneMarie Martino.

For the convenience of the voting public, Patch has put together profiles on each of the Board of Education candidates. Each answered questions that gave their opinion on the same questions; their profiles can be found below (in alphabetical order by last name):

The vote will take place at Babylon Memorial Grade School at 169 Park Avenue starting at 6 a.m. Polls close at 9 p.m.
