What To Know As Town Of Babylon Prepares For Winter Storm
DPW crews are pre-treating roads ahead of hazardous travel conditions forecast by the National Weather Service.
BABYLON, NY — Town of Babylon officials said Department of Public Works crews are pre-treating roadways and preparing equipment ahead of a winter storm expected to impact Long Island from Friday night into Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the region, with heavy snow forecast to make travel hazardous, particularly on Friday evening and overnight hours. Forecasters said snow could fall at rates of up to 1 to 2 inches per hour at times, reducing visibility and making road conditions dangerous.
Town officials urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and allow extra time if they must be on the roads.

“Your safety is our top priority,” Schaffer said on the official Town Facebook account. “We urge everyone to stay off the roads if possible and be prepared for changing conditions. Our DPW teams are working around the clock to treat and plow as needed — please give them room to work and drive responsibly.”
Due to the expected weather, the Town of Babylon’s Community Kwanzaa Celebration, scheduled for Dec. 26 at Babylon Town Hall, has been canceled and rescheduled for Dec. 30 to ensure public safety. Town officials said additional information and updates regarding the event will be shared at a later time.
