6-Foot Reticulated Python Seized From Suffolk Home: NYDEC
Reticulated pythons are illegal to possess in New York without a special permit, as they are considered dangerous.

WEST BABYLON, NY — A West Babylon resident was recently ticketed, after New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) seized a six-foot python from their home.
On March 29, environmental investigators tracked down and charged the suspected snake owner at a West Babylon residence. Officials found them to be in possession of a six-foot-long reticulated python, DEC said.
Multiple community members contacted the DEC about the West Babylon resident after officials found after a deceased 14-foot reticulated python in Medford.

The West Babylon resident did not own the deceased Medford snake, officials said.
Reticulated pythons are illegal to possess in New York without a special permit. They are dangerous constrictors native to Asia, capable of reaching lengths of more than 20 feet, DEC said.

The subject received a ticket for possessing the snake, returnable to Suffolk County First District Court.
The snake was transferred to a reptile center out of state, the DEC said.
