A Babylon Junior-Senior High School art teacher has been honored with a prestigious award.

BABYLON, NY — A Babylon Junior-Senior High School teacher has been honored with a prestigious award.

Cheryl Schweider, an art teacher and fine arts director, received the New York State Art Teachers Association Art Educator of the Year Award. The award is the highest recognition NYSATA can bestow and celebrates the top art educator in the state, according to the district.

"Cheryl has nurtured the artistic talents of generations of Babylon High School students," said Principal Al Cirone. "Every day, she demonstrates her deep passion for art education, and we are thrilled to see her recognized for this commitment."

Schweider was nominated for the honor by her peers, highlighting her dedication to fostering students' artistic interests and talents. The award also acknowledges her contributions to NYSATA and her support of its mission to promote art education in public schools.
