Babylon Falls to Amityville in Small Schools Championship Game

Panthers' Section XI playoff runs ends as part of Final Four Suffolk teams.

The Babylon Panthers' boys varsity basketball team was defeated by the Amityville Warriors, 52-42, in the Suffolk County Small Schools Championship game at Longwood High School in Middle Island on Tuesday evening.

The Panthers, the Suffolk County Class B champions, were held down by a tough Warrior defense and even more potent offense as Amityville never let the lead slip from their grasp at the end of any quarter, staving off a late 4th period rally by Babylon.

The Panthers were led by senior Fernando Vazquez with 20 points and 3 steals. Ray Wardell and Jake Carlock each had 7 points.

The Panthers still have more playoff basketball left to go, however. Their Class B championship win guaranteed the team a spot in the state playoffs, which begin in March.

Amityville will move on to face Northport for the Section XI Suffolk County Championship at Ward Melville High School this Friday.
