Babylon Library Youths Win Battle of the Books

Young adult readers take first place, best 40 other Suffolk County library teams.

The Babylon Public Library's youth team took first place in this summer's county-wide Battle of the Books competition.

Every summer, Suffolk County libraries gather with teams of six young adult players in grades six through nine to test their trivia mettle on eight selected books. Each library team reads the same eight books during the summer with a culmination trivia challenge in August at Stony Brook University.

The 17th annual edition came down to a Final Four of local libraries on August 12, with Babylon Public Library, Emma S. Clark Memorial Library (Setauket), Middle Country Public Library and Patchogue-Medford Library reaching the semifinals.

Babylon's team, "No Comment," came out on top of the stack of books, earn their victory at Stony Brook University. 

"No Comment" was Chloe Bzdyk, Paige Bzdyk, Vickie Catalano,  Catie Hernandez, Sophia Sherman, and Jake Zukaitis along with alternate player Rohan Chintarlapalli. The team was coached by Young Adult Librarian Lori Ludlow with assistant coaches Victoria Buonagura, Emily Guerra and Kummi Chintarlapalli.
