Boats Catch Fire After Drunk Woman Crashes Into LI Boatyard: Police
A drunk woman from West Babylon crashed into a boatyard, causing 4 boats to catch fire, police say.
BABYLON, NY — Police arrested a West Babylon woman after she drunkenly drove against traffic and crashed into a boat that burst into flames on Sunday, Suffolk County police said.
On Sunday around 10 p.m., 911 received multiple reports of a vehicle driven by Lorrie Ibe, 54, of West Babylon, who was driving a 2021 Kia Forte southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 231 in Babylon, police said.
Ibe crossed over the median and kept driving south in the southbound lanes while hitting street signs, and eventually drove through the intersection at East Main Street, over the median, through the fence in front of 270 East Main St., and crashed into a boat parked on land, police said.

The boat caught fire and quickly spread to three other boats, police said.
Police and a bystander pulled Ibe from the vehicle and she was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Babylon Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze, police said.
Ibe was charged with driving while intoxicated and is slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date, police said.
