Boy Scout Leader Accused of Giving LSD to Minor Scout

Long Island man gave an underage Boy Scout member alcohol and LSD, police say.

WEST BABYLON, NY - A Boy Scout leader from Long Island is accused of giving an underage scout member alcohol and LSD.

According to police, 32-year-old Lawrence Moschitta, of West Babylon, served as an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 183 and provided alcohol and acid to a 13-year-old troop member.

Moschitta also used marijuana and LSD in the presence of the juvenile at Moschitta’s home on Broadway Avenue on Dec. 3, police said.

Moschitta was arrested on Dec. 13 and charged with two misdemeanors–failing to exercise control of a minor and unlawfully dealing with a child, according to court documents.

He was released on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond following an arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.

Police say they believe this was an isolated incident, but officers are currently investigating with former and current troop members.

Moschitta is due back in court on Jan. 15.

Moschitta has been kicked out of the Boy Scouts and Ryan A. DiBernardo, the CEO of the Suffolk County Council of the Boy Scouts, told the Associated Press that the allegations run ”counter to everything for which the Boy Scouts of America stands.”
