BurgerFi Moves One Step Closer to Babylon
Company execs present case before the village's Board of Trustees.
BurgerFi inched closer to making its new location in Babylon Village officially during a public hearing held on Tues., April 23 at Babylon Village Hall.
BurgerFi executives Dawn Schaffran and Sandy Karp laid out the planned all-natural beef burger facility before the board, including the plans for a 2000 square foot location at 94 Deer Park Avenue with approximately 11 tables and 44 seats.
Patch recently reported on the relatively new burger chain's plans to open a new location in the village during a Planning Board meeting in mid-March. The chain would replace the vacant Food Mart between the Argyle Tavern and Horace & Sylvia's on Deer Park Avenue.
Village attorney Joel Sikowitz asked the executives about the restaurant's use of waiters and waitresses, which are mandatory for restaurants according to the village's code.
Karp responded the chain, in this instance, would use "runners" to deliver food to tables after it being ordered at the counter and those same employees would bus tables afterwards.
Board members cited concerns with possible odors to tenants above the location, but Karp said the chain would use a scrubber, a device that removes grease and other odors from the vents as the air heads out, leaving behind a mostly clean air. BurgerFi has used these in urban areas such as New York City with success, she said.
The board did not make a final decision during the meeting and said they would be in contact with the executives and landlords soon.
