Drunk Driver Hits And Injures NY State Troopers: Police

A drunk driver crashed into 2 New York State Troopers while they were sitting in their vehicles investigating another DWI crash, police say.

BABYLON, NY — Two New York State Troopers were hit and injured by a drunk drunk driver on Southern State Parkway shortly after midnight on Saturday, according to police.

State police said the troopers were in their vehicles investigating another incident when a 2004 Toyota RAV4 driven by Jaikaran Ramrookum, 73, of Smithtown, crashed into one police vehicle and pushed it into the other near exits 39 and 40 in the Town of Babylon.

Ramrookum was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and both officers were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The incident the troopers were investigating when Ramrookum crashed into them involved a 2018 GMC Acadia driven by Jared Robinson, 32, of Bay Shore, who was driving drunk when he struck a department of transportation light tower in a work zone, police said.
