Green Shirts Coming to Babylon on Wednesday

Skilled volunteers from relief agency World Renew will be on-hand to offer their assistance to Sandy survivors.

Volunteers from the international disaster relief agency World Renew, also known to many as the Green Shirts, will be coming to Babylon Village throughout the day Wednesday to offer their assistance to families still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.

According to Theresa DePietto-Roesler, president of Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Babylon, the aptly named Green Shirts will be meeting at Babylon Town Hall in North Lindenhurst before heading to the Babylon Village after 10 a.m.

The World Renew volunteers will be working with the Long Island Volunteer Center and Long Term Recover Group to help assign the members to the places that will need them the most.

The members will be setting up within the area to help complete a community needs assessment, which could bring more funding to help the village and its residents get back on its feet after October's powerful hurricane.

DePietto-Roesler said the volunteers will be in Babylon Village from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and up at Babylon Town Hall in North Lindenhurst from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
