Kings Park Man Arrested In 2 LI Bank Robberies: Police

Police say the 51-year-old was taken into custody during a traffic stop early Thursday and charged in both bank robberies.

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A Kings Park man has been arrested in connection with two bank robberies that occurred in West Babylon and North Babylon this week, Suffolk County Police said.

Brian Blackford, 51, was identified by Major Case Unit detectives and taken into custody during a traffic stop in front of 11 Beach Ave. in Copiague at 12:40 a.m. Thursday, according to police.

Police said Blackford is accused of robbing Flagstar Bank at 653 Montauk Highway in West Babylon at approximately 3:45 p.m. on December 8 and the Flagstar Bank at 1501 Deer Park Ave. in North Babylon at 12:48 p.m. on December 10.

Police said a man entered the Flagstar Bank in North Babylon on December 10 and handed a teller a note demanding cash before fleeing on foot. Earlier in the week, a man robbed a Flagstar Bank branch in West Babylon and ran to a waiting sedan.

Blackford was charged with two counts of degree robbery, resisting arrest, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
