Accused Drunk Driver Crashes Into Home; Displaced Family Needs Help

A fundraiser has been created for a family who's been displaced after an alleged drunk driver crashed into their West Babylon home.

WEST BABYLON, NY — The community is rallying to help a local family who's been displaced after an alleged drunk driver crashed his car into their West Babylon home in November.

Police told Patch that 64-year-old Thomas Keane backed a GMC Yukon SUV out of his driveway on Justice Street into his neighbor's house and their parked car on Nov. 26 around 9:30 p.m., destroying the home and displacing Michael and Anna Ragno, and their three young children.

No one was injured and the family was evacuated.

Keane was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

According to a GoFundMe organized by Michael's sister, Nina Ragno, the family is expected to be out of the home for 10 months due to damage. In addition, the smoke, chemical, and water damage ruined 80 percent of their belongings, Ragno wrote.

"We feel so blessed that everyone is safe and no one is hurt," Ragno wrote. "Please help my family to get back on their feet. Any little bit is appreciated more than you know."
