New York Rangers To Sponsor Kids' Ball Hockey Program

"Breaking the Ice" is a street and ball hockey program for kids ages 5 to 10 in the Town of Babylon communities.

BABYLON, NY — A new children's' sports league will let kids have a "ball" of a time.

The New York Rangers, in partnership with the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will sponsor “Breaking the Ice” — a street and ball hockey program available to to Town of Babylon communities this April.

The program is designed to help introduce kids ages 5 to 10 to the game of hockey while keeping kids active and healthy, a press release stated.

Families will be provided with the necessary equipment and instruction, and "kids will learn the basics and have the resources to enjoy the game for life."

The program will be held on Saturdays from April 16 to June 18 at two locations: John J. McMahon Rink at Fabio Buttitta Park, Acorn Street in Deer Park and the West Babylon Youth Center, 75 Sawyer Ave. in West Babylon.

A free introductory lesson will also take place on April 9 for kids to try out the game of ball hockey. The Rangers and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office "Boldest Hockey Team" will provide all the necessary equipment and instruction.

The duration of the introductory lesson will be one hour.
