Pet Of The Week: 'Super Sweet' Havanah Needs A Forever Family

"These are very scary times for all the dogs. We are pleading to our community to take a chance and meet your new best friend."- C. Franke

BABYLON, NY — Havanah is a "super sweet, cuddly and obedient" petit pit bull who resides at the Babylon Animal Shelter and she's Patch's Pet of the Week.

Weighing in at just 35 pounds, Havanah is "ready to find her match," said longtime shelter volunteer Christine Franke.

"She is pure sugar," she added.

The one-year-old pup is good with male dogs but it will take "just a minute" for her to warm up to any new friends she meets, Franke said.

"It'll be worth that minute to see her warm and happy personality emerge and bring you joy," she added.

Like most dogs, Havanah loves getting out of her kennel to play, but that's limited since the shelter is at full capacity.

"There's not one kennel available," Frank said.

That "harsh" environment with limited time to play is making Havanah "super stressed," Franke said.

She said Havanah "desperately needs out."

"These are very scary times for all the dogs. We are pleading to our community to take a chance and meet your new best friend," she said.

But adoption isn't the only option she said, adding that they're "desperate for experienced dog handlers."

"Even if it is one to two hours a week, we will take it and the dogs will love you for it," Franke said.

Normal adoption hours at the shelter are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Shelter staff are also happy to train interested dog lovers, Franke said. There's also an abundance of bunnies, kittens, and cats to spend time with too.
