REI, NY State Offering Outdoor Rec. Classes at Belmont Lake
Free classes will teach children and adults on topics like photography and navigation.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) are teaming up to conduct outdoor school programs at various state parks, including Babylon Town's own Belmont Lake State Park.
Classes will begin in September and run through the end of October as REI's trained staff help teach children and adults all about the outdoors.
“There is no better place than New York’s state parks for outdoor recreation and exploration—our trails, waterways and campgrounds are nature’s playground for countless recreational activities and our magnificent natural landscapes offer the inspiration to explore our natural surroundings and learn new outdoor skills,” said New York State Parks commissioner Rose Harvey. “We are thrilled to partner with REI to offer our patrons an expanded schedule of outdoor recreation programs in our parks.”
Belmont Lake State Park will play home to a few of the events this fall:
- Sat., September 21 – Introduction to Map & Compass Navigation at 10 a.m.
- Sun., October 20 – Introduction to Outdoor Photography at 10 a.m.
