Sandy Networking Expo Sat. in Lindenhurst

Update, 3 p.m., Thursday: In a message from Suffolk County's Code Red Alert system, "The meeting scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lindenhurst Public Library, located at One Lee Avenue, has been canceled! We'll provide additional information as it becomes available. Thank you!"

This comes after County Executive Steve Bellone originally announced the meeting on Thursday in a message from the Code Red Alert.

However, the Lindenhurst-sponsored meeting at the Rainbow Center described below is still happening as scheduled.

As local residents continue their recovery and rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Sandy, Lindenhurst Village has coordinated another meeting on Saturday to provide further assistance for those in need.

"Lindenhurst Village will be sponsoring a Networking Expo this Saturday, March 2, at the Lindenhurst Rainbow Senior Center, 293 Buffalo Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.," Village Trustee Maryann Weckerle shared with Lindenhurst Patch in an e-mail earlier this week.

"This is a follow-up to our first event, which was held on January 12," she said.

And, once again, various agencies and community groups will be present to discuss the resources they can provide to help Sandy-affected residents.

Those slated* for attendance so far are:

• United Way of Long Island.
• Community Development Corporation of Long Island.
• Long Island Housing Partnership.
• Hands across Long Island.
• Camp Bulldog.
• Adopt a House.
• Village of Lindenhurst Building Department.
• Long Island Cares.
• Project Hope.
• New York State Insurance Department.
• Lindy Manpower.
• Town of Babylon representatives.
• FEMA and SBA (pending - Lindenhurst Village is awaiting final confirmation).

This a separate event from the one happening at Lindenhurst Memorial Library, also on Saturday.

"I think both events are really good, and hopefully residents could go to both of them," Weckerle told Patch on Thursday afternoon.

She noted at this Village-sponsored event there'll be more non-profits whereas the meeting at the LML will have more State and County agencies. But both will have key resources for Sandy survivors.
