Talk Back: LIRR Quiet Cars
The Long Island Railroad is increasing the numbers of "quiet cars" as part of a pilot program. Does the Babylon line need a quiet car?

The LIRR has recently expanded its test program to designate westernmost cars "quiet cars." The program begain in December on the Far Rockaway line and now includes peak trains on the Hempstead, Long Beach and West Hempstead branches. Cell phone conversations, loud talking and electronic device noises are all discouraged on the quiet cars.
LIRR president Helena Williams reported on the MTA website that the program has met with an initial positive response from commuters: "It's had a lot of support. Some customers really do like it. As we expand the program...we will closely monitor customer reaction.”
There are no plans yet to include the Babylon branch in the pilot program, but we want to know what local commuters think. Does the Babylon line need a quiet car or does this infringe on your personal freedom? Will the rules be enforceable? What are the biggest nuisances you face on your daily commute?
