BABYLON, NY —The Town of Babylon announced all pools and spray parks will stay closed this summer due to coronavirus concerns, but Babylon Village residents wondered if the Babylon Village Pool could remain open, possibly with limited capacity. But on Thursday morning the official word came from Mayor Ralph Scordino that the Village Board decided to follow the town's lead and not open the pool.

In a statement, the mayor said "This was an extremely difficult decision to make as we all know that many of our residents enjoy the village pool and all the activities it offers. However, we feel that in the best interest of public health, it would be best to close the pool this summer."

The almost 200 comments on the village's Facebook post were mixed in their support or objection to the decision. Some residents noted the risk of spreading COVID-19 was too great, while others theorized that because the village pool is run by Babylon Village, there might be a way to stagger admissions, keep a very reduced capacity, or reduce the risks while allowing the facility to stay open.
