Village Reaches Out to US Tennis Association for Court Restortation

Babylon Village and the U.S. Tennis Association could be working together to help restore the village's six tennis courts.

The heavily used courts, some of which are located on Park Avenue and North Carll Avenue, are used by residents, the village summer recreation program and the Babylon School District for athletic events, according to a report by The Babylon Beacon.

"All of the courts have cracks that can cause a ball to go out of bounds and we want to fix that problem," village trustee Carol Amelia told The Beacon. "We want an unbiased opinion about whether we should consider repairing the courts or replacing them."

The Beacon reports the village has asked the USTA to look at the courts and give some ideas on how the village should move forward, especially with the potentially high costs of the projects. Amelia told The Beacon that replacing the courts could cost up to $100,000 while repairing them could be between $45,000 and $50,000.

Village officials also said they might apply to the USTA for a grant to offset the cost of the potentially costly project.

"These are a great asset to the community and we want to protect and preserve them," Amelia said.
