WATCH: All Ages Invited To Take Part In Annual Suffolk County Race
The Six-Hour 60th Birthday Celebration Run, used as marathon training for many, takes place on Sunday, Oct. 15.

WEST BABYLON, NY — A popular race is back for its 23rd edition. The event is on Oct. 15 at Belmont Lake State Park.
"I'm hoping to have this [as] the biggest of all the 23 years," Race director Myron Bellovin told Patch.
At the time of the interview, Bellovin said, 42 people had signed up for the race.

While the park course is 1.75 miles, participants will loop around 15 times to accomplish a marathon. They have six hours to complete their personal race.
Since the race has typically been in the middle of October, Bellovin said serves as "training for the Suffolk County Marathon" held a week later and the New York Marathon in early November.

"People run as many loops as they want [and] stay as long as they want," Bellovin said.
The 2023 race is a 60th birthday-themed in memory of Fred von der Heydt, the former race director who died in 2010.
Those born in 1963 get a 10% discount on the registration fee.
"I'm honored to celebrate people's birthdays," Bellovin said.
But, it's open to all ages and levels of experience with awards given to runners who log the most miles and for those in the "Class of 1963."
Groups of four can also compete in a team competition.
