West Babylon Man Facing Multiple DWI Charges

Police say Craig Monte was allegedly driving while intoxicated with two of his grandchildren in his vehicle.

Suffolk County Police arrested a West Babylon man Sunday evening and charged him with allegedly driving while intoxicated with two of his grandchildren in a vehicle.

Craig Monte, 59, is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child under the age of 15 — a felony under Leandra’s Law — and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

According to police, officers from the First Precinct responded to a 911 call at around 5 p.m. in which the caller reported a possibly intoxicated man at Van Bourgondien Park in West Babylon. The man was reportedly screaming at the two children who were with him.

When officers arrived, they found Monte driving a white 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche in the parking lot located on Albin Avenue. Police said the responding officers determined that Monte, who was with his nine-year-old and five-year old grandchildren, was intoxicated.

Monte was schedule to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
