West Babylon Resident Officially Named Chaplain

Cathy Blackman completed over 1,600 hours of clinical pastoral education to earn her new role.

A West Babylon resident has been officially named a chaplain after completing over a thousand hours of clinical pastoral education.

Cathy Blackman, a West Babylon citizen, completed 1,600 hours of clinical pastoral education at Our Lady of Consolation Nursing Center in West Islip, which allowed her to become a board certified chaplain.

Her duties as chaplain include holding prayer groups with the residents as well as offering spiritual support for families and staff. Chaplains encourage residents to live in their faith and address diverse religious and cultural as well as spiritual needs of everyone they connect with.

Blackman has a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Masters in Pastoral Education.

She began pursuing a life of faith with Our Lady of Consolation in 2011 when she became their Chaplain Intern.
