West Babylon Veteran Wins $6K In Lidl Grocery Gift Cards

WEST BABYLON, NY — One West Babylon resident is feeling all the love on Tuesday — from his local grocery store.

William "Billy" Berigold, won a year's worth of groceries on Friday, after entering in Lidl's “Free Groceries for a Year” giveaway.

The giveaway was created to encourage shoppers to take advantage of Lidl’s fresh and low-priced grocery options, the release said.

The German supermarket chain announced there was one winner across Long Island, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, for a total of three winners.

From now until January 2024, all three winners will each receive a $500 gift card every month to cover their grocery bill.

Lidl currently has 22 locations on Long Island. Its most recent store in Deer Park, opened last month.

Berigold expressed astonishment of the win, which will support his grocery bills during a period of unemployment.

“It’s just awesome,” said Berigold. “I still can’t believe I won.”
