2 Seriously Injured In Head-On Suffolk Crash; Man Charged With DWI: Police
The crash took place early Sunday, police say.
BAY SHORE, NY — A man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash early Sunday that left two people seriously injured in Bay Shore, police said.
According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place at 12:25 a.m. on Heckscher Avenue, between Spur and Hemlock Drives. Juan Garay, 35, of Queens, was driving a 2019 Nissan Rogue northbound on Heckscher Avenue, when the vehicle struck a parked, unoccupied 2012 Nissan Altima on the east side of the roadway, police said.
The Rogue then struck a southbound 2002 Nissan Sentra head-on, pushing it into a parked, unoccupied 2001 Dodge Ram on the west side of the roadway, police said.

The driver of the Sentra, a woman, 24, of Bay Shore, and her front seat passenger, a man, 24, of Bay Shore, were transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries; Garay was not injured, police said.
The Rogue and the Sentra were impounded for safety checks, police said. Officers responding to the scene determined that Garay was impaired and placed him under arrest, police said.

Third Squad detectives charged Garay with DWI; he was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, police said.
