Previously Convicted Felon Pleads Guilty After Loaded 9MM Bust: DA
Tremayne Winfield faces up to life in prison after his 3rd felony conviction for possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, Suffolk County DA says.

BAY SHORE, NY — A man was charged with his third felony conviction after being found guilty on Friday for possessing a loaded handgun, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney.
Tremayne Winfield, 39, of Amityville, was found guilty after a jury trial on June 21 of possessing a loaded handgun after the police executed a search warrant at a residence in Bay Shore, the DA said.
According to evidence established at trial, Suffolk County police executed a search warrant at Winfield's Bay Shore residence on April 28, 2023, the DA said. When they entered the house, officers found Winfield inside with a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine containing multiple rounds of ammunition, the DA said.

On Friday, Winfield was found guilty after a jury trial heard before Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins of one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C felony and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Class D felonies, the DA said.
According to the DA, Winfield was previously convicted of multiple felony offenses in Suffolk County including second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C violent felony, second-degree assault, a Class D felony, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class
D felony and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor.

“This defendant has a long history of crimes involving weapon possessions, with the instant conviction being his third felony conviction,” said Tierney. “My office will continue to vigorously prosecute violent offenses committed by prior felons to ensure our residents and communities are safe.”
Winfield is slated to return to court on July 19 and faces up to life in prison, the DA said.
He is being represented by attorney Eric Besso who was not immediately available for comment.
