Here’s Why Eva Was Shouted Out As A Bay Shore Star Student

BAY SHORE, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Yvonne M. Cornelius (Evie) who nominated Eva of Bay Shore.

Evie, Eva's mom, said that has overcome so much in her young life. She's dealt with Dyslexia, faced major health issues, and went without a home with her family for a period of Today, Eva is an accomplished student, athlete, and is seen as a "true hero."

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Our daughter unlike most struggled with Dyslexia and almost never passed 4th grade in Florida. Then after life altering leg surgery, double casts , major illness and having to live in a local shelter after a horrible car accident moving to NY with our family, she has never given less then 1,000 percent, only getting straight A’s since 6th grade. She works nearly three-fourth of the time time, cheerleading and being involved in more then three to four clubs and after school activities!

She helps her sister all the time without a complaint, who has challenges as well. She is 16 years old and my true hero.

I get exhausted when I think of how very far she has risen since our shelter time in 2018 and now we are praying to purchase a small home….she is not only a star student but this mom's super hero!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

She is more then her blue and purple hair! Lol
