Suffolk County Libraries Hit Record 4M Digital Book Checkouts In 2025
Library users averaged more than 11,000 digital borrows per day through Livebrary, officials say.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Suffolk County library users reached a major milestone in 2025, checking out more than 4 million digital titles through Livebrary.com, according to the Public Libraries of Suffolk County.
The record-breaking total highlights the growing demand for ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital media across the county’s 56 public libraries, with readers borrowing an average of more than 11,000 digital items per day this year.
Livebrary serves as the digital branch of Suffolk County’s public library system, providing 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks through OverDrive and its Libby reading app. Since launching in 2010, the platform has recorded more than 31 million digital checkouts, with usage continuing to grow each year.

Livebrary’s collection includes more than 100,000 unique digital titles, spanning genres such as romance, thriller, mystery, fantasy, children’s, and young adult literature. The catalog is updated daily and is available to readers of all ages and interests.
“The Public Libraries of Suffolk County are excited to see readers across Suffolk County using Livebrary.com and checking out digital media like ebooks and audiobooks at such a high rate,” said Kevin Verbesey, director of the Suffolk Cooperative Library System. “Suffolk County library patrons understand how valuable their libraries are and what an incredible opportunity it is to have access to a vast collection of digital media at their fingertips.”

The most borrowed digital title of 2025 was “Great Big Beautiful Life” by Emily Henry, which topped both the ebook and audiobook lists. Romance emerged as the most popular genre overall.

Suffolk County residents can access Livebrary’s digital collection with a valid library card from any of the county’s member libraries. Digital materials are available anytime through the Libby app or by visiting Livebrary.com. Livebrary is the public-facing digital branch for Suffolk County’s public libraries, providing shared electronic and online services for all 56 member libraries. Resources include ebooks, audiobooks, digital magazines, research databases, historic newspapers, and student support tools.
