BAY SHORE, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Candace Hector, who nominated Xavier of Bay Shore

Hector nominated her son, Xavier, not only for his academic achievements but by taking pride in his community.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Xavier is not only an excellent student who makes the high honor roll every semester and when he was younger made student of the month every year, he's a student that shows pride in his school and neighborhood. He promotes unity by speaking to everyone faculty and students, asking them about their day, making sure whoever is around feels included and respected. He loves his school and shows it by volunteering to help for events by setting up, being an usher, food services and things of that nature. We feel he's a star student because in a world that can be so mean and cold Xavier brings warmth with his constant smiling face, his funny jokes, his empathy and love.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Xavier can draw well even though he doesn't enjoy doing it often.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future,Xavier Hector 9th!
