LI Man Who Stabbed Girlfriend's Neck With Scissors Found Guilty: DA
Jorge Guevara of Bay Shore was found guilty of attempted assault after stabbing his girlfriend in the neck in front of 3 kids, the DA says.

BAY SHORE, NY — A Suffolk County man was found guilty after stabbing his girlfriend in the neck in front of their three children, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said.
Jorge Guevara, 49, of Bay Shore, was found guilty after a jury trial of first-degree attempted assault and other charges for stabbing his girlfriend in the neck with scissors, the DA said.
According to evidence established at trial, on March 28, 2023, Guevara threatened his girlfriend with a knife during an argument after she returned home from work.

After she struggled with Guevara over the knife, he grabbed a pair of scissors from a nearby desk and stabbed her in the neck and shoulder repeatedly, the DA said.
Three minor children watched the brutal attack, the DA said.

After Guevara stabbed the children's mother, he refused to allow her and the children to call 911, but a neighbor heard the screams for help and went to the house to help, according to the DA. However, Guevara reportedly wouldn't let the neighbor call the police from inside the house. When the neighbor tried to exit the home, she couldn't get the front door to open so she jumped out of a bedroom window to get to a phone and call the police, the DA said.
The victim suffered a deep laceration to her neck and was transported to South Shore University Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery, the DA said.
On June 18, Guevara was found guilty before County Court Judge Steven A. Pilewski of first-degree attempted assault, a Class C violent felony; four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Class A misdemeanors; and one count of second-degree menacing, a Class A misdemeanor.
Guevara is slated to return to court on August 22 for sentencing and faces up to 15 years in prison.
He is being represented by the Legal Aid Society.
“The brutal attack on this woman, who was stabbed in the neck with scissors by someone she once trusted, is a harrowing reminder of the dangers faced by too many domestic violence victims,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Today’s guilty verdict is a step toward holding the perpetrator accountable, but it also reinforces our resolve to advocate fiercely for the safety and rights of all victims. No one should live in fear of violence at home, and we will continue to work tirelessly to support and protect those who are most vulnerable.”
